Winter

In winter the Scottish mountains offer a unique set of challenges and rewarding experiences. Although low in altitude they compete with mountain ranges worldwide for adventure.

Ratio:  1:6 winter walking and winter skills. 1:4 winter mountaineering. 1:2 winter climbing.



Winter Skills

This course is designed to equip the winter hill walker with the skills they need to be safe. Topics covered include use of an ice axe and crampons, safe route choice and avalanche awareness.

 

Introduction to winter climbing

Equipping you with the skills required to venture out on steeper ground with 2 ice axes, this course will revise basic skills and look at the the techniques and ropework required to get you started as a winter climber.
 

Winter Mountaineering

This course provides the skills required to move safely on grade I ground. As well as revising and furthering core winter skills, ropework, belaying and snow anchors will be covered as well as discussing route selection and avalanche avoidance.

 

Advanced Scottish Winter Climbing

Working on grade III climbs upwards, this course will build on your previous winter mountaineering experience to fine-tune skills on harder routes.
