Skye at its best!!!!

Inn Pinn I’ve just returned from Skye where I guided Cathy on a 2 day Cuillin Ridge Traverse in SUPERB conditions. A traverse of the Cuillin Ridge is one of the finest mountaineering challenges in the UK over constantly technical ground. There were only 2 other teams attempting the traverse over the weekend which made it all the quieter for us and meant no waiting at the usual bottlenecks. We avoided all the tempting shortcuts getting full value from the ridge and spent an atmospheric bivi below Sgurr Thormaid. Skye doesn’t get any better.

Well done Cathy!Black Cuillins

Coire an Lochain

Last weekend I spent a few days guiding a group of visually impaired hill walkers in the Cairngorms. This weekend marked the 40th annual meet of the Milton Mountaineers who came from all over the UK to experience some Scottish hill walking.

The wintry June weather proved no match for the team who took everything in their stride. An excellent 3 days with a superbly inspirational group.

Old Man of Hoy

Old Man of HoyCharlie, Will and myself went on a flying visit to climb the Old Man of Hoy last week. The Hard Rock classic lived up to its superb reputation offering an awesome adventure in one of the remotest parts of the UK.

It may be worth a word of warning concerning the fulmars that almost halted our ascent before the last pitch. These harmless looking sea birds proved to be anything but and were determined not to give up their lofty perches without a fight. Both Charlie and I were repeatedly vomited on and my clothes still smell of stale mackerels after 3 washes…..Abseil from Old Man of Hoy

Welcome

Welcome to Focus Mountaineering’s new blog. This blog will hopefully serve to show what I’ve been up to at both work and play.
